An hp-adaptive strategy for elliptic problems

چکیده
In this paper a new hp-adaptive strategy for elliptic problems based on refinement history is proposed, which chooses h-, por hp-refinement on individual elements according to a posteriori error estimate, as well as smoothness estimate of the solution obtained by comparing the actual and expected error reduction rate. Numerical experiments show that exponential convergence can be achieved with this strategy.

Convergence of an adaptive hp finite element strategy in higher space-dimensions
We show convergence in the energy norm for an automatic hp-adaptive refinement strategy for finite elements on the elliptic boundary value problem. The result is a generalization of a marking strategy, which was proposed in one space-dimension, to problems in twoand three-dimensional spaces.
متن کاملIntegration of hp-adaptivity and a two-grid solver for elliptic problems
We present implementation details and analyze convergence of a two-grid solver forming the core of the fully automatic hp-adaptive strategy for elliptic problems. The solver delivers a solution for a fine grid obtained from an arbitrary coarse hp-grid by a global hp-refinement. The classical V-cycle algorithm combines an overlapping block Jacobi smoother with optimal relaxation, and a direct so...
متن کاملEnergy Norm a Posteriori Error Estimation of Hp - Adaptive Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Elliptic Problems
In this paper, we develop the a posteriori error estimation of hp-version interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin discretizations of elliptic boundary-value problems. Computable upper and lower bounds on the error measured in terms of a natural (mesh-dependent) energy norm are derived. The bounds are explicit in the local mesh sizes and approximation orders. A series of numerical experiments il...
متن کاملAn hp-adaptive Newton-Galerkin nite element procedure for semilinear boundary value problems
In this paper we develop an hp-adaptive procedure for the numerical solution of general, semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in 1d, with possible singular perturbations. Our approach combines both a prediction-type adaptive Newton method and an hp-version adaptive finite element discretization (based on a robust a posteriori residual analysis), thereby leading to a fully hp-adaptive New...
متن کاملPerformance of hp-Adaptive Strategies for 3D Elliptic Problems
The hp version of the finite element method (hp-FEM) combined with adaptive mesh refinement is a particularly efficient method for solving partial differential equations (PDEs) because it can achieve an exponential convergence rate in the number of degrees of freedom. hp-FEM allows for refinement in both the element size, h, and the polynomial degree, p. Like adaptive refinement for the h versi...
